Dear Parents,
A new year and a new chapter for Hull-Jackson Montessori. I am so excited to join the Elementary Team upstairs for the 2014-2015 school year. This will be my fifth year at Hull-Jackson...and I couldn't be happier!
I have lots planned for a successful and educational school year.
Here are a few key points to remember for the beginning of school:

I have lots planned for a successful and educational school year.
Here are a few key points to remember for the beginning of school:
1. Supply List
- 6 black and white composition books, marbled black and white covers only (2nd only)
- 3 Primary composition books and 2 regular black and white composition notebooks(1st grade only)
- 1 pack of plastic page protectors (at least 50)
- 1 1-inch 3-ring binder with clear view front cover
- 2 plastic folders with 3 brads and pockets
- 1 dozen BLACK WARRIOR pencils
- 1 pack of Crayola colored pencils
- 1 pack of blue pencils
- 1 pack of red pencils
- 3 glue sticks
- 1 pack of plastic bandages (Band-Aid brand preferred)
- 1 container of baby wipes
- 1 box Ziploc plastic bags

Occasionally, you will receive a letter asking you to donate to our "Snack Pantry". We will keep these items, make them last as long as possible, then restock the next month (or two).
To help, please bring ONE of the following items.

- Goldfish Cheddar Baked Snack Crackers
- String Cheese Pack (at least 18 servings)
- Unsweetened Applesauce Cups (at least 18 cups)
- Box of Plain Cheerios
- 18 clementines, tangerines, or apples
Please remember that cookies, cakes, chips, and other sugary snacks are only for special occasions with pre-approval from administration. Children ages 4 to 8 who average 1,600 calories per day should limit added sugar to about 3 teaspoons (12 grams) a day. Any snack that doesn't meet district guidelines will be politely returned.
4. Birthday Celebrations
It's not about the snack, it's about the experience! Since we are a coordinated health school, we focus on healthy eating habits in the cafeteria, in the classroom, and even on birthdays. Please do not bring cupcakes, cookies or other sweets as a birthday treat. We will host a "Sun Celebration" for your child as an experiential moment for their birthday. We may also go outside for extra recess, play a game, do a dance, sing a song or celebrate in some other non-edible way.
If you must bring a snack, please consider one of the following:

- "Lady Bugs on a Stick"
- Trail Mix
- Popcorn Mix
- Fruit and Veggie Baggies
- Hummus and Pita Bread
- Watermelon or other fruit to be eaten outside (added bonus)
